Italian for foreigners
Why study a foreign language?
Knowing foreign languages has become increasingly important in recent years. Language plays an essential role in communication between people and affects our behavior and way of seeing and interpreting the world. Nowadays, knowing another language represents a resource on a cultural, working, social, and cognitive level.
The main reasons why learning a foreign language is recommended, are the following:
- It stimulates intelligence and develops memory
- It allows you to live richer and more engaging travel experiences
- It increases self-esteem and self-confidence
- It offers greater job opportunities and career advancement;
- It helps to meet new people and build friendships;;
- It shortens the distance between cultures, helping them become more open and tolerant.
What does it mean to learn a foreign language?
Learning a foreign language does not only mean memorizing words and studying grammar. Above all, it is about knowing the culture of the country it is spoken in, learning how local people live, how they think, and what their traditions are. To achieve such in-depth knowledge it is necessary to immerse yourself completely in the language you want to learn, and surround yourself with the stimuli related to the language itself, even - and above all - outside the single study session. For this reason, the most commonly used approach in teaching foreign languages is the communicative one, which emphasizes the ability to communicate the message based on its meaning, rather than focusing on reaching grammatical perfection.
